In company news, Local Corp ( LOCM ) is up 20% at near $2.00 a share, rising to as high as $2.30 - its best price levels since early January - after the online local media company reached an agreement to provide Microsoft ( MSFT ) with location-based local product data for the Bing search engine.
LOCL's Krillion shopping data platform will help power Bing's local product search results, adding relevant retail locations, brands and categories as well as product availability data and other details.
Financial terms of the pact were not disclosed. MSFT shares are up 0.6% today at near $31.40 each.
Pretty much every hyperlocal publisher out there is on the lookout for new ways to generate revenue. In addition to employing in-house sales teams and using ad networks to fill unsold inventory, publications can increase revenue by integrating business directories into their existing sites. Directories give publishers a way to target local advertisers with a low-cost, self-serve alternative to traditional banners and display ads. Just as importantly, they provide instant value to readers interested in learning more about the merchants in their hometowns.
Local Corp's new deal will also integrate search results using the company's Krillion platform. Krillion offers unique searching, connecting customers and retailers with actual products in stock, using patented technology.
According to Searchenginejournal, the following retailers participate in Krillion technology:
·Best Buy (BBY), Costco (COST), Express (EXPR), Fry's, Home Depot (HD), K-Mart (SHLD), Lowe's (LOW), Nordstrom (JWN), Orchard Supply (OSHWQ.PK), Office Depot (OD), Radio Shack (RSH), Rite Aid (RAD), Sears (SHLD), Staples (SPLS), Target (TGT), True Value, Wal-Mart (WMT).
In the press release linked above, Local Corp's chief executive officer Heath Clarke had this to say about the deal:
"We're pleased to be partnering with Bing to provide relevant local product shopping information to millions of customers. Our dynamic local product data enhances the online shopping experience for consumers by providing them with valuable information about which retailers carry the products they are looking for."

.
Company Expands Data Aggregation Capabilities; Offers Location-Based Product API Covering Over 75,000 Retail Stores and 23,000 Brands
IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Local Corporation (LOCM), a leading online local media company, today announced that it has launched the next generation of its Krillion local shopping platform, which provides dynamic location-based product search data for millions of local consumers nationwide.
The Krillion local shopping data index, one of the largest and most comprehensive in the industry, now includes over 75,000 retail stores, covering over 3,000 shopping categories and over 23,000 leading consumer brands, representing millions of products. The platform also includes a new API, providing business partners and customers with an efficient way to integrate local shopping solutions and content into desktop and mobile sites and applications.

Online real-estate database Zillow has announced its earnings for its second financial quarter of 2013. The company, which saw its stock soar over the last few months, reported record revenue of $46.9 million, but a massive loss per share of $0.30 compared to the $0.05 loss it posted in the last quarter.
Zillow extreme overvalued - Local Corp extreme undervalued - only stupid idiots don't change.
