bpost adjusts its stamp and bpack tariffs on 1 January 2023 to offset some of its rising costs due to inflation, salary indexations and the decreasing mail volume.

Loose Non Prior stamps will rise from €1.19 to €1.39 each (or €1.36 each for a sheetlet of 10 stamps). Loose Prior stamps will rise from €1.89 to €2.17 each (or €2.14 each for a sheetlet of 10 stamps). The cost of sending parcels will also be adjusted. For example, the unit price for Mini Colis Small (up to 1kg) will rise from €4.60 to €5.60 in January 2023.
This stamp tariff adjustment partly offsets the rising costs of delivery largely due to the rise in salary costs, the rise in energy costs and the costs per delivered letter due to the large fall in mail volumes (32%* over the past five years) resulting from the increasing popularity of digital communication. This price adjustment means that every citizen can continue to rely on a high-quality universal postal service without the need for state subsidies.

"The review has been extended to the current concession for the distribution of newspapers and periodicals in Belgium, which revealed elements that may indicate potential violations of applicable laws as well," the group said in a statement.
Bpost added that in this context, the collaboration of the board of directors with Chief Executive Officer Dirk Tirez had been "mutually" terminated.

In November 2022, the Belgian government decided to extend the service concessions until December 31, 2023, at the conditions that apply for 2022, as specified in the current concessions. The extension will be submitted to the European Commission for approval under State aid rules before December 31, 2022.
Under the terms of the extension, the concession can be succeeded by a new concession after 2023. However, the decision to launch a new tender procedure has not yet been taken by the Belgian State. If this decision leads to a new tender and the concession is not awarded to bpost, the current concession agreement provides for a six-month extension, until June 30, 2024, to ensure the transition between the service providers.
