Another five projects are at initial stage of financial close in 2012. (Die kennen wir wohl) Mr Zardari asked the officials to expedite the land allocation process for 18 other wind power projects. Presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar said that Mr Zardari was informed that companies involved in wind power projects had suggested announcement of upfront tariff to save at least six months project time which was consumed in tariff determination by the authority concerned. President Zardari asked Nepra to examine the suggestion and expressed the hope that the regulator would soon arrive at a consensus upfront tariff regime for all projects till the capacity to produce 2,000MW was achieved. He said incentives would be given to the companies which started power production within a year. He directed for finalisation of schemes for construction of road networks in the areas of power projects. The president expressed satisfaction that Zorlu Energy of Turkey, FFC Wind Energy and CWE of China had reached the advanced stage of their projects and would be able to generate power by December 2012. He said such projects were a good start in the quest for finding alternative resources of energy which were efficient as well as would help reduce dependence on traditional modes of electricity generation and at the same time expand the power supply capacity to remote locations where grid expansion was not practical. He said that wind power being clean and renewable source of energy was the world’s fastest growing energy resource and Pakistan needed to tap all resources, including that of solar energy, to meet power shortage. |
