The Chart is Looking Up

By Matt Blackman
No matter what your approach to stock analysis, one thing is clear. Nothing is a better leading indicator than stock price to the trader. They may have a point. How many times have you noticed that by the time you get a company release announcing positive earnings news, it is already reflected in the stock price? Call it the wisdom of the market. For this reason, technical traders and analysts prefer to let the price of a stock do the talking.  Directional cues are provided by price patterns that like footprints on the trail to the eye of a trained tracker, impart valuable clues about what may lie ahead.

Silverado (OTCBB - SLGLF) had a good run when it surged more than 220% last October from $0.049 to $0.157 in April 2007. It then spent the next five months jigging lower before putting in a bottom of $0.067 in August. Since then however, the stock has been pushing slowly but steadily higher.

In the process, it put in a price-volume support base between $0.07 and $0.08 together with a series of higher lows and higher highs that indicate an up trend. This base occurred on lower than average volume which while typical of a consolidation pattern, has positive technical implications for the stock. Over the last 50 days, daily volume has averaged 2.4 million shares. This compares to an average daily volume of 6.2 million shares in early March as the stock approached its April peak. ....

Beware the Short Squeeze
Published on March, 20, 1998

Few things are as infuriating — or dangerous — as a short squeeze.

There is this preposterous stock, I won’t mention any names, at 90, up from 70 up from 30 up from 8, and it’s just such an obvious short. It has no sales, no earnings, the boss has disappeared or turned out to have a criminal record — and still the stock goes up.

If it sounds impossible, you’ve never observed, let alone been caught in, a short squeeze.

Who’s buying at these prices? You marvel.

Four kinds of people:

Scared short-sellers who’ve already lost so much they just can’t stand one more sleepless night, so they buy shares to cover their short. I know a guy who lost $19 million this way.

Short-sellers who have no choice. The equity in their accounts has put them below margin requirements, so they must cover some of the short, like it or not.

Short-sellers who are forced to cover when the lending broker recalls the shares and no other shares can be found to borrow. (Sometimes participants in a short squeeze will even instruct their brokers to switch shares from their margin to their cash accounts in order to tighten the squeeze and drive the price higher. Stock in a cash account cannot be loaned out.)

Speculators who sniff blood. They know the stock is a complete piece of junk but gamble that the bubble won’t burst for another 30 or 40 points. If they buy enough, their own buying may drive up the price, forcing more short-sellers to buy also — to stem their losses or meet margin calls — driving the price higher still.
As a rule of thumb, a good time to short a stock is when you can’t. No more shares are available to borrow.

But even if you could, shorting is not for the faint of heart or inexperienced. Puts are safer but will be priced very high in a short squeeze (because put-sellers realize the stock could drop like a stone at any instant). And synthetic shorts — writing a call and simultaneously buying a put, which gets around the unavailability of stock to borrow — is both expensive and risky.

There’s nothing un-American about shorting stocks, but there’s lots about it that, for all but a few, makes it inadvisable.

Es kann nicht mehr lange dauern:

Washington DC – Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) today announced the introduction of the Coal-to-Liquid Fuel Marketing Act of 2007. The legislation, which is part of a larger energy package that will be introduced in the coming months, will increase domestic energy production and reduce our nation’s dependence on foreign oil.

Coal liquefaction can produce a virtually sulfur-free diesel fuel which is cleaner than conventional diesel, reducing smog and acid rain. This process can also produce jet fuel and many other products.

"Coal liquefaction has been proven as a viable fuel for decades. With today’s improvements in technology, we can produce domestic energy and improve environmental outcomes at the same time. This fuel would be particularly beneficial in the Central Valley of California, as we seek to address ongoing air quality challenges,” said Rep. Nunes.

The Coal-to-Liquid Fuel Marketing Act of 2007 will encourage the development of liquid fuel from coal by providing a new risk management tool for investors. Specifically, the bill enables the Secretary of Treasury to auction “put contracts” for coal-based liquid fuel.  This risk management option will protect producers from dramatic swings in the oil market.

This risk management tool will raise revenues for the federal government, based on the auction of the “put contacts” and will provide additional security to investors interested in developing liquid coal fuel in the United States.

NON POLLUTING $15/BARREL 'GREEN' FUEL BASE REPLACES SKYROCKETING $90-100/BARREL CRUDE OIL

SILVERADO'S COMMERCIAL GREEN FUEL TECHNOLOGY PRODUCES FUEL WITHOUT RELEASING GREENHOUSES GASES

NOVEMBER 05, 2007 - Vancouver, BC, Canada
SILVERADO - OTCBB: SLGLF / Frankfurt : SLGL / Berlin : SLGL

(November 5, 2007 - Vancouver, BC, Canada) Silverado Green Fuel Inc. is less than three years away from having a fully operational facility to demonstrate how its green fuel technology can replace many of the industrial applications for oil at a fraction of the cost, without releasing greenhouse gases or damaging the environment. By energy industry standards, that is considered on-stream ready.

Silverado turns low-rank coal (representing half of the U.S.'s coal reserves) into Green Fuel, which can be commercially produced without releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, without particle emissions, and without the release of toxic by-products. The supply of low rank coal in North America represents centuries of energy resources availability.

Initial production costs are estimated at under US$15 per barrel, on an oil equivalent energy basis, compared to $90 - $100/barrel crude oil.

Green Fuel is produced without releasing any harmful emissions into the air, and because low rank coal already has a moisture content of 40%, most of the water used in Silverado's Green Fuel Technology is actually recycled from the process itself, and re-used.

"Silverado is a world leader in low rank coal to liquid fuel technology", states Garry Anselmo, President and CEO. "We are generating excitement and interest from the private and public sectors because we have a ready, proven technology for 'now', so the timing for Silverado is perfect. And because America's energy future, security and domestically produced energy supply is THAT important".

Green Fuel can be used to power oil-fired power plants directly, or be used as a feedstock for further processing to produce transportation fuels (jet, diesel, gasoline), key agricultural compounds (fertilizers, synthetic petrochemical feedstock's, ammonia), industrial products (oils, lubricants, synthetics) and even consumer products (plastics, packaging, etc.). Silverado Green Fuel can also be further processed to produce pure, clean hydrogen to power fuel cell automobiles and power plants.

The company has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Mississippi Development Authority and other state agencies to build a $26 million Green Fuel demonstration 'Ecoplex' plant. The plant will use the vast low-rank coal reserves found near the Mississippi site, and should be operating fully by 2010. Silverado has been working with Members of Congress to obtain an appropriation from the Federal Government for this project.

Silverado Green Fuel processing plants can be established in any location where there is a deposit of low-rank coal nearby. The potential for Silverado facilities throughout North America, and even world-wide is on the company's radar, following it's exciting Mississippi venture and commitments.
