China Molybdenum (3993) said fixed prc at top-end $6.8
2007/04/20 16:56
(Infocast News) Market sources say that China Molybdenum (3993) has priced its offer price per share at the top end of $6.8, raising $7.369 billion.
The company had offered 1.084 billion H shares offered for IPO (before exercise of an over-allotment option for an additional 108.36 million H shares) at $5-6.8 per share.
The shares for public offering have been over-subscribed by about 400x and funds totalling $295.5 billion have been frozen. The shares for international placing were also over-subscribed by over 250x.

Mining Stocks: Moly Demand is Soaring and the Markets Can't Get Enough
Inside this article:
- Moly demand is climbing and supply can't keep up
- Why the investment world hasn't caught on yet
- The perfect way to play it
Mining Stocks: A sign of things to come
It's always tough to gauge true demand for something. Like the Tickle-Me-Elmos that sell out weeks before Christmas or the much maligned Coke II of the 1980s. Frankly, when gauging potential demand for something new, it's more of a crapshoot than any form of science.
But when you see something sell-out overnight, you know you've got something big. And that's exactly what happened earlier this week.
After I wrote to you last week about molybdenum, the moly supply/demand situation has only gotten worse.
I looked into it a little further and get this: according to the 2006 U.S. Geological Survey, demand for moly in the U.S. increased 25.7%, in the last year alone. However, there was only a 4% increase in production in 2006.
Mining Stocks: We're just getting started
However, the investment community has only started to take note. Earlier this week, Sprott Asset Management finally closed the deal on its newest moly-focused hedge fund. Clearly, Sprott is trying to stay one step ahead of the moly boom by creating a stand-alone hedge fund to capitalize on rising moly prices.
And just to show you how much the financial community is starting to catch on, the launch of the fund was a blow-away success. Sprott was hoping to raise between C$120 million and C$150 million to start the fund, but there was just too much interest. Once everything was said and done, Sprott raised 200 million dollars Canadian in the fund launch.

And China Molybdenium is attracting a lot of attention for its IPO. According to The Standard, “China Molybdenum closed its offering Wednesday, is also likely to price its IPO at the high end of the price range after it was oversubscribed about 400 times in its retail tranche, market sources said.
Clearly, there is some big interest headed towards the moly. And with leading Canadian financial firms like Sprott helping to draw interest, there is likely plenty more gains to come.
Mining Stocks: Coming soon
So on Friday, I will be returning to Taipan Financial News Market Insights show to reveal what's hot in the moly world, along with a few ideas of how to play it. So stay tuned. As a Fear & Greed reader, I'll ensure you get a chance to watch the video.
As for the markets today, the Dow Jones Industrial average set another new high, lthough you could have passed right over the news. Unlike the months when the index was setting new highs, seemingly every day, there just isn't that robust bullishness sweeping across the markets.
Right now, it's best to stick to commodities where the supply/demand situation is in complete disarray like moly or to stay in beaten down sectors. And right now, no sector is more beaten down than utilities. That's where the smart money is.
Stay tuned to TFN on Friday. The moly rush has only begun, and you still time to get in on it.

Commodity Stocks: China IPO marks the start

Commodity Stocks: China IPO marks the start
Inside this article:
- Demand for molybdenum (moly) is climbing
- Two red hot IPO's provide the proof
- Investors can't et enough of these two moly stocks
Commodity Stocks: China IPO draws continued focus to moly stocks
As you've been learning about for the past two weeks here in Fear and Greed, molybdenum is one of the hottest metal plays around. Earlier in the week, I was asked to return to give my opinion on how to play the market.
The launch earlier this week of the Sprott Moly Fund (MLY:TSX) is a compelling idea, but it's not really a pure play on rising moly prices. Unlike a few other Canadian commodity participation funds, it doesn't just buy and hold the metal in some warehouse. The Sprott fund also holds a few moly mining stocks.
As a result, the more capital Sprott can raise for the moly fund, the more demand there will be for moly stocks. Sprott was hoping to raise between C$120 million and C$150 million to start the fund, but there was just too much interest. Once everything was said and done, Sprott raised almost C$200 million dollars when the fund launched on Monday.
Commodity Stocks: Unable to meet demand
On top of that, investors have been climbing all over each other in order to get some shares of the latest China IPO, China Molybdenum. Earlier in the week, China Moly raised $943 million in a highly touted Hong Kong IPO.
And it's the China Moly IPO that has the investment world starting to take note of the the potential in the moly market. Reports put the IPO as 400% verwirrt overbought. That means there were bids for five times more shares than were available.
Initial buyers of the IPO couldn't get enough. The massive amount of bids provides further proof of the pent up demand for moly stocks.
Now, to be honest, Blue Pearl Mining (BLE:TSX) is probably your best bet in the moly sector. Even though officially, China Moly is now the top world producer, Blue Pearl is going to be a much faster grower.

So, I urge you to consider an investment in Blue Pearl Mining. It's the leader in the moly game and through a moderately aggressive acquisition and production strategy, should remain keep the leader for quite some time to come.
Commodity Stocks: Follow the leader
And even though its been run-up with the attention drawn to the sector from the Sprott Moly Fund, you're looking at a C$20 to C$25 stock by then end of the year.
But if you're looking for a bigger opportunity, nickel could provide that opportunity.
Over the past month or two, we've talked quite a bit about the opportunities in cobalt. The blue metal is just so much in demand and supply doesn't even have a chance of catching up until 2009 at the earliest.
However, cobalt is found in the ground with nickel. As a result, a nickel shortage and a cobalt shortage go hand in hand. And there are still some more opportunities in nickel.

den satz finde ich besonders nett.
It's always tough to gauge true demand for something. Like the Tickle-Me-Elmos that sell out weeks before Christmas
*harharhar*
