Sirius Resources completes another two diamond holes at the Nova discovery
Friday, September 14, 2012 by Proactive Investors
Sirius Resources (ASX: SIR) is continuing exploration at speed at the Nova nickel-copper discovery, with another two diamond holes completed.
The first of these new holes, SFRD0046W1, was drilled 40 metres down dip from hole SFRD0042 (announced on 10th September) on the northernmost drill line (700N) intersected:
- An upper zone comprising 21.2 metres of disseminated sulphides and 2.5 metres of massive sulphides from 343.6 metres;
- A second zone of 19.2 metres of disseminated sulphides from 367.3 metres; and
- A third zone of 2.2 metres of massive sulphides from 402.8 metres.
Importantly the outcome from these holes is that they have defined a thick (40-50 metre) zone of mineralisation including massive, matrix, net textured and disseminated sulphides where predicted by the EM model.
Drilling is continuing on this line (700N), with several more holes planned.
The second new hole, SFRD0047, was drilled on the 550N infill line towards the southern end of the target, intersected:
- An upper zone of 5.91 metres of stringer sulphides from 266.76 metres; and
- A lower zone of 5.13 metres of stringer sulphides from 296.11 metres.
The remainder of this line will be drilled during the coming week.
Next step and news pending
Drilling on the next stepout line (800N) will also commence later next week following the completion of a down hole electromagnetic (DHEM) geophysical survey.
Assay results for the first of the thick sulphide intercepts on the 600N line are also expected late next week.
Well funded
Sirius in mid-August raised $7.6 million through an oversubscribed placement of 10 million shares at $0.76, made to institutional and sophisticated investors. The funds are to be used to accelerate the diamond drilling program.
Nova back-story
The Nova deposit is a blind (ie concealed by transported sediments) virgin discovery. Based on the size of the associated EM conductor 1 (1,200 x 300 metres) and its close association with the nickel-copper mineralisation intersected to date, the Nova deposit could be a very large massive nickel-copper sulphide deposit.
The deposit is only 40 kilometres north of the Eyre Highway and closer, via sealed road, to the port of Esperance than any operating nickel sulphide mine in Western Australia.

Matsa Resources (ASX: MAT) has completed first pass soil sampling on 40% of its Symons Hill Project, with elevated copper, nickel, chromium and cobalt assays indicating a possible mafic intrusive.
The 96 square kilometre Symons Hill Project is located just 2 kilometres from Sirius Resources’ (ASX: SIR) new Nova deposit in Fraser Range, Western Australia that delivered a discovery intercept of 4 metres at 3.8% nickel and 1.42% copper.
The Symons Hill tenement is bisected by a south-southwest trending fault, known as the Symons Hill Fault, which can be seen on aeromagnetic images to continue towards the Nova discovery
Widely spaced, reconnaissance scale soil samples at intervals of 400 metres were recently completed at the project.
A number of elevated coincident values for copper, nickel, chromium and cobalt define a topographic depression 3 kilometres by 2 kilometres in extent, which is located within the interpreted Symons Hill Fault corridor about 10 kilometres south of Sirius’ Nova discovery.
The results and their topographic expression are believed to be indicative of a concealed mafic intrusive body at shallow depth.
This interpretation supports Matsa’s view that the Symons Hill Fault corridor is important in controlling the emplacement of mafic intrusions which have the potential for associated nickel sulphide mineralisation.
Matsa is continuing its first pass soil sampling program to cover the remaining 60% of the tenement, and will also undertake a program of infill soil sampling and geological mapping within the newly interpreted mafic intrusive.
The company plans to carry out electromagnetic surveying once soil sample results have been received and interpreted.
The application for the granting of the Symons Hill tenement is progressing and Matsa does not expect the application approval process to delay any proposed drilling programs.
