TORONTO, ONTARIO, Sep 10, 2015 (Marketwired via COMTEX) -- Bombardier announced today that its all-new CS100 aircraft has successfully completed all noise performance testing and preliminary data confirms it is the quietest in-production commercial jet in its class. The aircraft's noise performance and its outstanding short-field capability make it ideal for city centre operations.
The first production CS100 aircraft will soon commence function and reliability testing, signaling the start of the final flight testing phase. For these tests, the aircraft will operate on a commercial airline type of schedule from key airports in North America.
The announcements were made today on the occasion of a CS100 flight demonstration at Bombardier's Toronto site where the aircraft performed for employees, local government representatives, business leaders, media and Toronto-based C Series customer and long-time Q400 operator, Porter Airlines. The demonstration aircraft -- flight test vehicle five (FTV5) -- was painted in the livery of launch operator SWISS.
"It's always a thrill to see the C Series aircraft in a new city and today marks a proud achievement as we experience the aircraft's Toronto debut," said Fred Cromer, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. "With a solid plan targeting certification by year-end 2015, and entry into service with SWISS in the first half of 2016, we are working with existing and potential customers as they explore opportunities and develop business cases around the C Series jetliners."
"The excitement around the C Series grows every time we meet or surpass our performance targets," said Rob Dewar, Vice President, C Series Aircraft Program, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. "We announced previously that the C Series aircraft are exceeding their original targets for fuel burn, payload, range and airfield performance. Now we are delighted that the CS100 aircraft's noise performance tests have confirmed it as the quietest in-production commercial jet in its class.
"The C Series certification program is now over 85 per cent complete," added Mr. Dewar.
Earlier this year, Bombardier announced that the C Series aircraft's maximum range is confirmed to be up to 3,300 NM (6,112 km), some 350 NM (648 km) more than originally targeted. The aircraft is delivering more than a 20 per cent fuel burn advantage compared to in-production aircraft, and a greater than 10 per cent advantage compared to re-engined aircraft. This means that one C Series aircraft could reduce an operator's carbon emissions by up to 6,000 tonnes each year. The C Series will also emit 50 per cent fewer NOX emissions than the CAEP 6(i) NOX emission standards.
Bombardier assesses the environmental impact of its aircraft throughout their life cycles. Through its design, manufacturing, operations and recyclability, the C Series aircraft will be issued an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) upon entry into service - an industry first.

WASHINGTON/MONTREAL (Reuters) - Canada's Bombardier Inc (BBDb.TO) expects to complete the final certification testing of its smaller new CSeries narrow-body commercial jet by the week of Nov. 23, a key milestone toward the plane being certified, four sources briefed on the plan said.
The Montreal-based manufacturer declined on Thursday to confirm the testing schedule, but said it still expects certification of the 110-seater CS100 by year's end, followed by the jet's entry into service in the first half of 2016.
The progress of the CSeries is being closely watched after years of delays and cost overruns on the program.
Three of the sources, who were not authorized to speak publicly about the matter, questioned whether the previously unreported November timetable could cause the plane and rail-maker to miss its year-end certification goal because of the tight schedule caused by the holiday season.
"Overall, things are looking positive for certification. Any delay will be more administrative than any sign of major issues," said one of the sources. "As long as no significant technical issues come up, it should be just a few days into the next year."
A second source said certification is still possible by year's end, but everything would have to go perfectly in the certification process, which was rare.
However, Toronto-based Bombardier spokeswoman Marianella Delabarrera said certification will be completed "by the end of the year."
Bombardier's share price has dropped sharply on concerns about demand for the new jets and rising cost of the $5.4 billion program, which has strained the company's balance sheet.
Richard Aboulafia, analyst with the Virginia-based Teal Group, is forecasting that the jet will go into service in the second half of 2016 with about 10 orders likely next year.
Bombardier needed about $1 billion to complete certification of the new jet, but would need about $3 billion in additional funding to help reel in the sales it needs to make the CSeries a success in the highly competitive marketplace, he said.
Loren Thompson, chief operating officer of the Virginia-based Lexington Institute, said the company faced significant financial issues.
"The CSeries is not progressing as expected. I would not be surprised to see Bombardier turn to the Canadian government for assistance given their circumstances," he said.
In May, the company announced plans to raise cash by listing a minority stake in its rail division in Germany.
Bombardier's Delabarrera said the company has not asked for additional money from the Quebec or Canadian governments.
"In addition to running on schedule, we are running on budget," she said.

Bombardier (BBDb.TO) has approached European planemaker Airbus (AIR.PA) about selling a majority stake in the Canadian company's CSeries jet in order to shore up its depleted balance sheet, people familiar with the matter said.
Under a proposed tie-up, Airbus would help Bombardier complete development of the troubled aircraft in exchange for a controlling stake in the program, effectively ending Bombardiers independent efforts to break into the 100- to 160-seat airplane market dominated by Airbus and Boeing (BA.N).
Significant hurdles would need to be cleared before Airbus took up the surprise offer to invest in its smaller competitor.
"There are ongoing discussions, but they are still exploratory ones. Neither management has made a decision," said one of the sources, who asked not to be identified given the sensitivity of the matter, as did the other sources.
Another source called the contacts "serious," but cautioned that it "would be an extremely complicated structure to set up."
If a deal is reached, Airbus would fund the final phase of development of the CSeries, an all-new, medium-haul, carbon-composite jet due to enter service next year, according to two sources. The deal would involve a minimal amount of cash up front, they said.
In return, Airbus would receive a controlling stake in the aircraft - which is years late and billions over budget - and a share in its revenue, although details are still being worked out.
The firms would probably form a separate board for the CSeries and sign a strategic agreement to jointly market the plane, if a deal was reached, sources said. Airbus and Bombardier declined comment. "We have no comment on rumors about other companies, but we are always monitoring developments in our industry," Rainer Ohler, head of communications at Airbus Group, said.
Bombardier spokeswoman Isabelle Rondeau said the company would not comment on rumors.
Until recently, Bombardier had been reluctant to offer a majority stake in its main aircraft development program, but the companys weakened balanced sheet has forced the Beaudoin family that controls the board to consider all options, said one source, who asked not to be named as they were not authorized to speak publicly.

Kann es nicht nachvollziehen das der Kurs wieder so absackt!
Nur weil angeblich Airbus nicht an eine Zusammenarbeit mit BB interessiert ist muss doch nicht gleich die Aktie so dramatisch fallen!
Das Projekt mit der c-Series steht kurz vor dem Abschluss und ich denke die großen Investitionen wurden schon getätigt!
Und wenn einmal die ersten Flugzeuge Anfang nächsten Jahres ausgeliefert werden, wird auch Geld in die Kassen fließen!
Und das Tagesgeschäft mit den anderen Produkten geht doch auch weiter!

Wir sprechen jetzt vielleicht von einem Zeitraum ab heute bis Januar - Februar 2016, also ca 4 Monate wo noch Geld benötigt wird und ich denke diese Zeit ist finanziell von Bombardier zu stemmen!
Bin kein großer Fachmann, aber dieses Problem sollte zu lösen sein!
Einfach mal abwarten und nicht gleich Panik geraten
Airbus könnte in den Verhandlungen auch abgelehnt haben, weil Bombardier immer noch genug Selbstvertrauen hat, um sich nicht über den Tisch ziehen zu lassen. Keiner weiß es. Ich glaube, die Unsicherheit darüber, was genau in den Verhandlungen die Standpunkte waren, schlagen sehr einseitig nur in Pessimismus um. Es gibt zwei Aspekte, die aus meiner Sicht für ein Festhalten an Bombardier sprechen: der Kanadische Staat ist einer der reichsten der Welt, das kann man nachlesen. Und der kann und wird wohl auch noch eingreifen, wenn es ganz eng werden sollte. Zu wichtig ist diese Traditionsmarke, allein der Klang des Namens. Zum anderen erhebt sich gerade der Ölpreis, was für Bombardier gerade noch rechtzeitig sein könnte, denn die Kundenaquise des neuen Fliegers steht und fällt wohl genau damit.
Weiß jemand, wieviel weniger die Flugzeuge verbrauchen als die anderen?
Ich denke, es gibt auch einen psychologischen Aspekt für Bombardier aus den gescheiterten Verhandlungen: die Botschaft, dass die Konkurrenz sie vernichten will. Das weckt bestimmt nochmal den Überlebenswillen. Die Nichtanerkennung ihrer "Lebensleistung" durch die Konkurrenz.
