NEW YORK, Jan 13 (Reuters) - Shares of Rational Software Corp.
Thursday, after the maker of programming tools reported third-quarter profits and revenues that beat analysts'
projections.
Shares of Lexington, Mass.-based traded on Thursday morning at 54-13/16, up 6 percent, or 3-1/4, after touching a
high of 56-3/16 earlier. Volume was 1.8 million, double its daily average.
Rational on Wednesday reported third-quarter net income of 27 cents a diluted share, compared with 20 cents a year
ago. Revenue for the third quarter was $146.2 million, up from $109.1 million.
Wall Street analysts had been expecting profits of about 25 cents a share and revenues near $141 million, analysts
said.
Analysts cheered the results on Thursday, and upgraded their views on Rational's stock.
Credit Suisse First Boston analyst Wendell Laidley lifted his 12-month price target to $71 a share from $52.
"Rational's strong position within the "eBusiness and Internet development market is clearly driving top-line
acceleration," he said in a note to clients. Laidley also reiterated his strong buy rating.
First Albany analyst Damian Rinaldi raised his rating on Rational to strong buy from buy and set a $75 target.
Rational said its business continues to accelerate as more companies build software for the Internet and leverage the
benefits of rational development systems.
The company also announced on Wednesday that it was working with Intel Corp.
for the Internet using the Linux operating system.

Rational Software gefällt mir schon recht gut nur würde ich gerne zur Marktdurchdringung und der Qualität der Software im Vergleich zu Wettbewerbsprodukten (auch Intershop) einen entsprechenden Bericht nachlesen. Sowas habe ich aber noch nicht gefunden. Wenn Du dazu etwas siehst, bitte ich Dich es zu posten.
Es gibt jetzt einiges, das noch recht interessant wäre mir aber noch fehlt (Cisco, verticalnet, Apple, Jafco und ein paar Fonds). Ich will jetzt erst mal meinen Rest Cash für eine Korrektur aufheben, so sie den kommt.

Ich habe am Freitag eine email an die IR Abteilung von RATL gesandt, mit allen mich interessierenden Punkten (Wettbewerbsstellung, Produktpositionierung im Markt und Risiken). Vielleicht bekomme ich ja eine Antwort, - ich werde es Dich dann wissen lassen. Ansonsten will ich weiter meinen Cashbestand wegen der Gesamtbörsensituation erst mal so halten.
