Today, Vestas Wind Systems, the global leader in wind energy solutions is in Tokyo presenting the most recent findings in two global studies on renewable energy as part of the global Energy Transparency Campaign which aims at informing and creating transparency about consumer behaviours and corporate energy usage. The Global Consumer Wind Study is shedding light on consumer preferences vis-à-vis renewable energy, whereas the Corporate Renewable Energy Index is establishing more transparency on corporations’ energy consumption, which the former study shows is a missing piece of information, when consumers are making buying-decisions......
A multi-wheeler was used to transport the colossus to a quayside barge at fabricator Bladt Industries’ Aalborg yard in Denmark.
The substation is now being fastened to the barge ahead of shipping on Saturday. It will head straight to Northwind, which is co-owned by investors Colruyt and Aspiravi.
Bladt will handle the substation’s offshore commissioning and heavy-lift vessel Rambiz will carry out the installation.
Northwind will feature the first North Sea installation of Vestas V112 turbines and installation is scheduled to commence in July or August.

Vestas boosts cash flow with 127-mln-euro plants sale
COPENHAGEN, June 21 (Reuters) - Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has sold two wind power plants in Romania and Bulgaria for total 127 million euros ($167 million), improving its chances of meeting 2013 guidance for positive free cash flow.
Investors have worried in particular about the company's free cash flow which in the first quarter was minus 60 million euros and was negative throughout 2012 except for the final quarter.
The wind power sector has been hit hard by overcapacity, a faltering global economy and a cut in subsidies for renewable energy by cash-strapped governments, prompting Vestas to axe jobs, stop non-profitable projects, shut factories and sell assets.
"This is an important step on the road to meeting its guidance," said Sydbank analyst Jacob Pedersen.
As soon as the project translates into a firm and unconditional order in accordance with Vestas’ definition, Vestas will disclose a company announcement about this.

Chilean President Sebastian Piñera has inaugurated his country’s joint-largest wind farm at an official ceremony.
The 90MW Talinay East facility is owned by Enel Green Power and features 45 Vestas V100 2MW turbines in the country’s central Coquimbo region.
Piñera (pictured) said Chile is making progress towards its energy goals by “approving almost 5000MW per year, 80% of which is clean renewable energy”.
The head of state said he hopes to boost the clean power sector by way of interconnection of Chile’s two major independent grid networks, construction of an “electric highway” of new transmission infrastructure and a new law regulating land use.
Talinay shares the crown as Chile’s largest wind site with another Enel facility, Valle de los Vientos, which features an identical array of Vestas machines in the northern region of Antofagasta.
Enel acquired Talinay from Vestas last year. Previous owners of the project include Spain’s Enhol and business conglomerate Grupo Phoenix. Up to 500MW of wind capacity is planned at future phases of the site.

“I don’t have much patience for anyone that denies that this challenge is real,” Obama said in the speech at Georgetown University. “Sticking your head in the sand might make you feel safer but it’s not going to protect you from the coming storm.” The centerpiece of the president’s plans, which require no congressional input, are the first-ever limits on carbon emissions from all power plants....There are about 6,597 power plants in the U.S., 589 of which are coal-fired, according to the Energy Information Administration. Last year, coal plants accounted for 38 percent of electricity produced in the U.S., followed by natural gas and nuclear power which produced 29 percent and 20 percent, respectively.
Actual reductions under Obama’s plan are unlikely to begin until 2018,....
The president’s plan also includes $8 billion in new loan guarantees for carbon-capture projects, as well as proposals to promote renewable energy development on federal lands, the construction of more climate-resilient infrastructure, and energy-efficiency standards for appliances and federal government buildings. ....
As the administration rolled out pieces of the plan, the proposals reignited battles with industry groups and Republicans. ...
The president’s plan is helped by a recent change in the government’s calculation of the social cost of carbon emissions, a measure that’s used to determine the costs and benefits of climate rules. The U.S. government now assumes it is worth about $36 per ton to avoid emitting carbon, an increase from the $22 per ton price previously used.
The president pledged more than three years ago to cut U.S. carbon-dioxide emissions 17 percent below 2005 levels by the end of the decade. An administration-backed effort to pass a market-based system to price carbon dioxide failed in the Senate during Obama’s first term, after the White House prioritized votes on the health care law.
