Congressional negotiators are nearing a year-end tax deal that would extend and phase out the wind industry’s key federal incentive through at least 2017, according to sources familiar with the details of the emerging deal.
While details had not been made public at publishing time this afternoon, the treatment of the production tax credit (PTC) in the emerging bipartisan deal goes beyond the simple extension contemplated by an earlier Senate bill and seeks to provide a long enough pathway for wind and other qualified renewable energy developers to gradually wean themselves from government support.
The deal is included in a broader “tax extenders” bill that negotiators were said to be putting the finishing touches on this evening......

The House on Wednesday passed a one-year renewal of more than 50 tax breaks that expired at the end of 2013, putting the measure on a path toward President Obama's desk.
Passed 378-46, the measure would extend nearly all of the tax breaks until just the end of this year, at a cost of almost $42 billion. The dissenting votes were close to evenly split between Democrats and Republicans.
In advance of the vote, Democratic tax writers in the Senate had been pushing for their preferred two-year extensions of the tax breaks....

COPENHAGEN, Dec 4 (Reuters) - The U.S. House of Representatives voted on Wednesday to renew a package of temporary tax breaks, known as the "extenders", including a wind production tax credit (PTC) crucial for turbine makers such as Denmark's Vestas. The PTC will be extended for one year retroactively for 2014 if the Senate and President Barack Obama concur.
"People were expecting a two-year extension, so this is less than expected," Nordea analyst Patrik Setterberg said in a note to clients.
