UMich consumer sentiment index weakens in Sept. by Rex Nutting
WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- Consumer sentiment weakened in early September, researchers at the University of Michigan said Friday. The preliminary sentiment index fell to 88.2 in September from 89.3 in late August. Economists were expecting the index to improve slightly to about 90.3, according to a survey conducted by CBS MarketWatch. Consumers have expressed concern about the weak job market and slow income growth. Consumer spending, on the other hand, has held up well.
