Universal Detection Technology Comments on Potential Spread of 'Mail-Order' Bio-Terror Agents
LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - November 12, 2007) - Universal Detection Technology (http://www.udetection.com) (OTCBB: UDTT), a developer and provider of early-warning monitoring technologies to protect people from bioterrorism and radiological weapons, commented on a recent report on the spread of 'Mail-order" Bio-terror and the availability of cheap DNA synthesis technology and its implications on Homeland Security.

UDTT's BSM- 2000, co-developed by NASA's JPL, is designed to monitor the air constantly for abnormal levels of bacterial spores such as anthrax. Since BSM-2000 looks for a molecule specific to bacterial spores, it cannot be fooled by genetic mutations that will cause anthrax bacteria to go unnoticed by PCR detection methods.

According to a study published in Nature Biotechnology, rapid improvements in bio-technology have now allowed researchers to generate genetic material starting from just information and raw chemicals. The use of this technology by bio-terrorists can lead to them creating pathogens that potentially can:

1- Render a vaccine ineffective;
2- Confer resistance to therapeutically useful drugs;
3- Enhance the virulence of a pathogen or rendering a non-pathogen
  virulent;
4- Increase transmissibility;
5- Alter host range;
6- Enable the evasion of a diagnostic or other detection; and
7- Enable weaponization.
"There is a possibility that a bio-terrorist could use a DNA synthesizer to create Anthrax bacteria that will be undetectable by current PCR based systems," said Mr. Amir Ettehadieh, UDTT's Director of Research and Development. "The BSM-2000 is immune to such manipulations as it uses a non-DNA based procedure to detect anthrax," he added.

UDTT is also a supplier of detection kits that are capable of detection up to five bioterrorism agents including anthrax, ricin, botulinum, plague, and SEBs. Other products include radiation detection systems and educational DVDs.

Universal Detection Technology Receives Purchase Order for MRSA Germicide From Quiznos Restaurant Franchise

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 27, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Universal Detection Technology (http://www.udetection.com) (OTCBB:UDTT) (Frankfurt:P08), a developer and provider of early-warning monitoring technologies to protect people from bioterrorism and radiological weapons, announced today that it has received a purchase order for its licensed MRSA Germicide from a Quiznos restaurant franchise. The product is an anti-microbial solution designed to kill over 99.99% of microbes it comes in contact with including the deadly MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus). UDT began marketing the anti-microbial solution earlier this month through a partnership with EMME consulting.

The anti-microbial solution uses a composite of titanium dioxide containing sparing soluble silver chloride that inhibits microbe multiplication thus reducing their populations. Extensive studies show that surfaces treated with the solution remain sterile for days after sterilization. The solution is designed to kill 99.99% of microbes including MRSA.

"The purchase order from Quiznos indicates that there is a concern in the restaurant industry on the recent spread of MRSA infections," said Jacques Tizabi, UDTT's Chief Executive Officer. "There have been numerous cases of MRSA infection in schools and hospitals and accordingly, restaurants need to take the necessary precautions and protect their customers," he added.

According to Doctors at the University of Chicago Hospital, 65 percent of the staphylococcus infections coming into emergency rooms in otherwise healthy kids are MRSA. Moreover, the MRSA is resistant to anywhere from 15 to 30 different antibiotics. That means when it's detected, a doctor has only a very small number of compounds at hand that are able to kill it. Recent reports also indicate a rise in the levels of MRSA infections in schools and colleges.

Universal Detection Technology Analyzes the Spread of Community-Associated MRSA "Superbug"
UDT Continues to Receive Orders for Products Designed to Detect and Mitigate the Spread of MRSA

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - December 6, 2007) - Universal Detection Technology (www.udetection.com) (OTCBB: UDTT) (FRANKFURT: P08), a developer of early-warning monitoring technologies to protect people from bioterrorism and other infectious health threats and provider of counter-terrorism consulting and training services, issued an analysis of the recent spread of Community-Associated Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (CA-MRSA). UDTT has licensed technologies that could detect airborne MRSA in an indoor environment and is currently marketing products that eliminate MRSA on surfaces. The Company has received several orders for its products and is in the process of launching a larger marketing campaign.

Traditionally, MRSA infections occurred exclusively in hospitals and were limited to immunecompromised patients or individuals with predisposing risk factors. However, recently there has been an alarming epidemic caused by community-associated CA-MRSA strains, which can cause severe infections that can even result death in otherwise healthy adults outside of healthcare settings. The CA-MRSA is more virulent than the hospital strain and has been responsible for numerous infections in schools throughout the country.

"The spread of CA-MRSA outside the hospital environment is of significant concern," said Mr. Amir Ettehadieh, UDTT's Director of Research and Development. "Environments that are vulnerable to CA-MRSA, such as schools, nursing homes and prisons should implement systems to detect and eliminate MRSA before widespread infections," he added.

Universal Detection Technology: Patent Granted for Bioterrorism Detection Technology
LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - December 10, 2007) - Universal Detection Technology (www.udetection.com) (OTCBB: UDTT) (FRANKFURT: PO8), a developer of early-warning monitoring technologies to protect people from bioterrorism and other infectious health threats and provider of counter-terrorism consulting and training services, announced today that the Patent for Company's Anthrax Detection technology used in its BSM-2000 system was granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

The Patent is for an invention titled "bacterial endospore quantification using lanthanide dipicolinate luminescence" and has been filed under USPTO Number 7,306,930. The inventor is Dr. Adrian Ponce, the Deputy Manager for the Planetary Science and Life Detection Section at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

This patent describes a method for detecting bacterial endospores in a medium, the method comprising the steps of:

   a)  Combining a lanthanide with a medium to be analyzed for bacterial
       endospore content, the lanthanide reacting with the bacterial
       endospores if present in the medium to form a lanthanide chelate;
   b)  Exciting any lanthanide chelate formed in said step (a) with an
       excitation energy distinctive of the lanthanide chelate;
   c)  Sensing whether emission occurs at an emission wavelength
       distinctive of the lanthanide chelate as a result of the
       excitation in said step (b); and
   d)  Determining whether bacterial endospores are present in the
       medium, based on said step (c).
UDTT licensed the patented technology from the California Institute of Technology and in 2004 commercialized the technology into the BSM-2000 autonomous detector for airborne anthrax spores. UDTT announced the sales of two units to the Government of the United Kingdom in 2006.

The United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) conducted a study of the technology in 2003 and concluded that the technology would be a lot cheaper to operate to the current DNA analysis units at use at U.S. Postal facilities. The technology has also been evaluated in numerous peer reviewed scientific journals such as IEEE Magazine. The technology was also featured in the 2005 edition of NASA's Spinoff magazine that highlights significant technologies that were commercialized through NASA's technology transfer program.

"We are proud to announce the granting of the patent by the USPTO. This is a major milestone in the development of the technology and for our Company," said Mr. Jacques Tizabi, UDTT's Chief Executive Officer. "We also have several other technologies that are in the process of patent approval and we will continue to license more technologies and build up our technology portfolio," he added.

Universal Detection Technology's MRSA Detection System Featured in the January Issue of Microbe Magazine
Microbe Is the News Magazine of the American Society for Microbiology

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - January 18, 2008) - Universal Detection Technology (www.udetection.com) (OTCBB: UDTT) (FRANKFURT: PO8), a developer of early- warning monitoring technologies to protect people from bioterrorism and other infectious health threats and provider of counter-terrorism consulting and training services, announced today that the January issue of Microbe Magazine has published an article on a MRSA Detection system that UDTT plans to develop based on the technology that is under exclusive license to UDTT from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) Office of Technology Transfer and is protected under a provisional patent. The technology had been developed by NASA's JPL and has applications in NASA's Planetary Protection Program.

Microbe is the news magazine of the American Society for Microbiology, and is published monthly in print and online. It keeps members and other interested individuals informed of Society activities, meetings, educational and employment opportunities, new publications and national political developments of interest to the microbiological community. The current topics and features sections provide information about current scientific developments.

"We are excited that our technology has been featured in a prestigious scientific journal such as Microbe," said Mr. Jacques Tizabi, UDTT's Chief Executive Officer. "We will continue our efforts into bringing the first airborne MRSA detection system to the market," he added.

According to a November 2007 paper published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, the MRSA microbe, a strain of a once harmless staph bacterium that has become invulnerable to first-line antibiotics, is responsible for more than 94,000 serious infections and nearly 19,000 deaths each year. Recent reports also indicate the spread of MRSA into the nation's schools. UDTT has no timeframe for the development of a MRSA detection system but feels that when developed, the system can be useful in hospitals and public places.
