Newnote Financial, the Canadian crypto conglomerate that acquired CoinTrader.net back in March, has now picked up recently embattled digital marketplace PayIvy.
“Recently embattled” is a bit of an understatement, as world-renowned security analyst Brian Krebssingled them out in a recent blog post for activities of its users. He admits in his post that PayPal had never determined that PayIvy was violating its policies, IE selling stolen accounts, but instead some of its vendors had broken the policies and also had their PayPal accounts frozen. CCN is currently conducting an investigation into PayIvy at their request, and the report should be forthcoming this week.

$260,000 CAD Acquisition
Newnote is a rapidly growing financially-focused company that is expanding further and further into the cryptocurrency space. The acquisition of PayIvy cost it a mere $260,000 CAD in cash and stock, and it has the benefit of the current development team staying on to propel the firm into the future. In a press release, Newnote said that 1,000 new vendors were signing up every week and that in its first six months the company had stimulated over $200,000 per month in revenues via its platform.
The digital marketplace allows vendors to easily digital goods. They accept Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Omnicoin via CoinPayments.net, the premier processor for altcoin payments. OmniCoin is native to Hackforums.net, one of the largest IT security professional forums in the world.
Newnote head Paul Dickson said in a press release:
This is a very strategic acquisition for Newnote, each of our services will be integrated into one another utilizing our APIs. Merchants can now setup shop with PayIvy.com, Accept payments through Coinpayments.net, Convert Bitcoin-to-Cash on Cointrader.net and transfer the funds into their bank account or remit overseas instantly. Newnote’s portfolio of Bitcoin centric assets now has a combined total of over 60,000 active users engaged in various crypto-currency activities while processing nearly $2,000,000 per month in Bitcoin transactions. We haven’t fully monetized each of our services during this rapid growth period, plans to do so are imminent.
Should Spell a Longer Future for the Start-Up
PayIvy’s founders, Lode Kennes, Ton Manh Nguyen, and David Snyder, the latter two of whom are Canadian, will now be able to focus on the development and expansion of the project, rather than worrying about being able to keep it alive financially. In addition to their exit payments, they have steady jobs now.

VISA’S HOCK, CITIBANK’S REED AND FORMER TREASURY SECRETARY SUMMERS JOIN XAPO’S ADVISORY BOARD
Xapo, the bitcoin wallet, has formed an advisory board that includes three-well known financial visionaries: Dee Hock, the founder of Visa; Lawrence Summers, former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, and John Reed, former chairman and CEO of Citibank. The three will enhance Xapo’s status as a progressive bitcoin wallet. All three individuals see bitcoin as playing an important role in future payments and governance.
Hock has played a major role in the creation of modern payments systems.
“Bitcoin represents not only the future of payments, but also the future of governance,” Hock said.
“We live in the 21st century, but are still using command and control organizational structures from the 16th century. Bitcoin is one of the best examples of how a decentralized, peer-to-peer organization can solve problems that these dated organizations cannot. Like the Internet, bitcoin is not owned or controlled by any one entity, so it presents incredible opportunities for new levels of efficiency and transparency in financial transactions.”
Reed: Bitcoin brings digital revolution to finance
Reed was responsible for growing Citibank into the world’s first truly global financial franchise. Under his leadership, Citibank developed the modern ATM and helped redefine the modern retail banking experience.
“Financial services have remained largely untouched by the digital revolution,” said Reed.
“Bitcoin represents a real opportunity for changing that. Money at its core is simply a ledger for keeping track of debts, and bitcoin is truly the best iteration of a universal ledger we’ve ever seen. The mere fact that there will never be more than 21 million bitcoins and that each bitcoin can be divided into 100 million units makes it a significant improvement on any historical form of currency.”
Summers: Bitcoin brings unique advantages
Summers was the Secretary of Treasury under President Bill Clinton. He brings a reputation as a leading economic and policy thinker.
“Until now, whenever we’ve needed to transfer money, we’ve had to rely on a third party, whether it be a bank, a clearing house or a payment networ. Bitcoin offers, for the first time, a method for transferring value and making payments from anywhere to anywhere, in real-time, without any intermediary. This could mean we soon see many billions of people sending bitcoin everyday as easily as they currently send a text message.”
“We look forward to continuing to build the global bitcoin ecosystem with the help of these accomplished leaders and visionaries from the worlds of finance, economics and public policy,” said Wences Casares, Xapo founder and CEO, in a blog on the company’s website.
Xapo relocates global financial center
Casares also recently announced the company is moving its global financial center to Zurich, Switzerland. The company’s primary deep cold storage vault is also located in Switzerland. That country’s regulatory stability, international neutrality and its deep-seated tradition in global finance also factored into the decision.
Xapo will retain a presence in Palo Alto, Calif. to serve its U.S. customers.
Xapo has raised $40 million from Benchmark, Greylock Partners, Index Ventures, Fortress Investment Group, Ribbit Capital and Emergence Capital Partners.

Newnote's Cointrader offers fiat settlement in Canada
2015-06-17 09:09 ET - News Release
Mr. Paul Dickson reports
NEWNOTE FINANCIAL OFFERS BITCOIN-TO-FIAT CONVERSION TO COINPAYMENTS.COM
Newnote Financial Corp.'s 100-per-cent-owned Cointrader bitcoin exchange has made Canadian fiat settlement available to over 13,000 merchants on the Coinpayments website.
For the past few months, the company has been working with the team at Coinpayments Inc., of which Newnote holds a 20-per-cent equity position, to deliver this latest integration, which offers merchants using Coinpayments as a payment processor to automatically sell their bitcoin balances on Cointrader and settle via e-transfer or direct ACH (automated clearing house) transfer to their bank account. Merchants can accept 55 different crypto-currencies using one of the 25 popular shopping cart plug-ins Coinpayments offers. In addition, Coinpayments has enabled merchants to instantly exchange one coin for another via Shapeshift.io, an API (application programming interface) platform that provides instant bitcoin and altcoin conversion. U.S.-dollar settlement will be available in the near future.
President and chief executive officer of Coinpayments, Alex Alexandrov, states: "We love crypto but recognize that purchasing bitcoin can be often a challenge, so we are looking to make it super easy. Very soon you will be able to simply buy bitcoin on-line via Interac on-line checkout on our site via our partnership with the Bluzelle website. The team is very excited to bring more people into the crypto world by breaking down barriers and allowing them to participate."
About Coinpayments Inc.
Coinpayments operates from Vancouver, Canada, and is the third-largest payment processor and the only company accepting 55 crypto-currencies. Coinpayments has over 13,000 merchants in 146 countries worldwide. The small team of crypto-enthusiasts prides itself by outperforming the large funded competitive players.
