WhatsApp may have a larger number of users than Viber does. That may explain why some feel that WhatsApp is better or more popular. However, when it comes to features, Viber is the clear winner. The app offers users a lot more than WhatsApp does. But, this doesn’t mean that you have to choose one from the other. You can simply have both apps installed on your phone and use them according to your contacts.

August 7, 2017 Alert
Mobile messaging and VoIP app Viber reached 920 million unique users in June, up from 891 million in March and 823 million in June 2016. According to its parent company Rakuten, Viber’s second-quarter revenues were up 91 percent year-on-year, driven by more customers making calls with Viber Out and increased content purchases. Telecom accounted for 73 percent of Viber’s revenue and content the remainder.
From September, Rakuten plans to start integrating Viber more with its e-commerce services. Rakuten users will be able to log in with their Viber phone number to the e-commerce and online services, and chat will also be integrated more in the shopping experience. Further growth is also
expected from the company’s new sponsorship of FC Barcelona.

Messaging app Viber is adding a shopping function on March 6, giving its 800 million global users the ability to browse and share products from participating online retailers. To complete a purchase, consumers will be redirected to the retailer’s site.
Consumers in the Viber app can tap a shopping button to browse products from dozens of retailers that integrate with the app. Viber is launching with several brands, including Macy’s Inc., No. 6 in the Internet Retailer 2016 Top 500 Guide; Zales (owned by Signet Jewelers Ltd., No. 122), Bloomingdale’s (part of Macy’s), Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (No. 4) and online marketplace Rakuten Inc., a Viber spokesman says. Viber is owned by Rakuten, Japan’s dominant online marketplace operator and the owner of several online shopping portals in other countries.

Messaging app Viber earlier this year made its first foray into shopping services with Instant Shopping, a feature that lets you search for items for sale via a keyboard when you have the messaging app open. Today, the company is announcing some more e-commerce related news: it’s buying the startup that helped build that feature.
Viber has acquired Chatter Commerce, maker of a service called ShopChat, which was the tech behind Instant Shopping. CEO and co-founder Zephrin Lasker once described ShopChat to me as “the world’s first shopping keyboard.”
