ÅLESUND, Norway, Feb. 26, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Hexagon Agility, the world's leading provider of (renewable) natural gas fuels systems, confirms new orders for CNG / RNG fuel system installations on pilot trucks powered by Cummins' new X15N natural gas engine developed for the North American commercial truck market. These orders are destined for major fleets and cover two leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). The orders come in addition to existing pilots that are already on the road with Hexagon Agility fuels systems.

Order books are now open
As of February, Kenworth Truck Company, one of the top three truck OEMs in North America, is the first to open its order books for trucks powered by the Cummins X15N engine.
Kenworth and Cummins have stated that trucks equipped with the X15N engine will be in serial production by mid-2024 with initial deliveries expected early in the third quarter.

Natural gas goes head-to-head with diesel in the heavy-duty sector

The highly anticipated, industry-first X15N natural gas engine by Cummins is designed to deliver a range of long-haul applications like diesel - while significantly reducing emissions. Powered by RNG/CNG the X15N is capable of meeting stringent EPA and CARB regulations in 2024 and 2027. With power ratings up to 500 hp (~370 kW) and torque up to 1850 lb.-ft, (~2500 Nm) the engine allows natural gas to go head-to-head with diesel in the heavy-duty sector.

Hexagon Agility expands capacity as more fleets are expected to "make the switch"
Hexagon Agility expects demand for the new engine will ramp-up gradually during 2024 and the Company's addressable market for natural gas long-haul trucks will increase at pace with the segment when this new engine is widely available.

Hexagon Agility's current capacity expansion program will substantially increase cylinder volumes for heavy-duty truck applications. Approximately 330,000 heavy duty trucks are sold annually in the North American market1.

Hexagon Agility, a provider of renewable natural gas (RNG) fuels systems, confirms that it has received new orders for CNG/RNG fuel systems on trucks powered by Cummins’ new X15N natural gas engine—which is currently available on new-order Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks, and will be available to order in Freightliner trucks in 2025, according to Cummins. Hexagon Agility says these incoming orders are in addition to existing pilot trucks already using Hexagon Agility fuel systems.

“The launch of the Cummins X15N engine will triple the addressable market for heavy-duty natural gas trucks over the next few years,” says Eric Bippus, executive vice president of sales and systems at Hexagon Agility. “This is a game-changer for our niche industry, enabling a powerhouse solution for Class 8 fleets traveling locally and cross country. The 15-liter delivers enhanced fuel efficiency and maximum uptime.”

According to ACT Research, approximately 330,000 heavy duty trucks are sold annually in the North American market. Hexagon Agility says 100,000 of these trucks currently make up the market for RNG/CNG solutions in vocational and day cab regional haul applications, where the Cummins 9- and 12-liter natural gas engines are a good match. The company says the introduction of the Cummins X15 will unlock the remaining 230,000 trucks in the long-haul market segment for CNG/RNG, which require high horsepower, and demand a range of up to 1,300 miles. Due to this substantial increase in expected viability, Hexagon is expanding operations to meet estimated demand for Class 8 CNG/RNG fuel storage systems.

 

Kenworth delivers 15-liter natural gas-powered truck to UPS
The truck is equipped with the Cummins X15N, which Kenworth says will meet CARB and EPA Requirements for both 2024 and 2027.

In a ceremony at Kenworth’s Chillicothe, OH plant, Kenworth delivered the first T680 daycab with a 15-liter natural gas engine to UPS in late February. The Cummins X15N-equipped Kenworth T680 runs on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and is the first of several trucks utilizing the new powerplant that Kenworth says it is delivering to UPS. According to Cummins, the engine produces between 400-500 hp with up to 1,850 lb.-ft. of torque.

The first UPS truck has the engine rated at 400 HP with 1,650 lb.-ft. of torque, according to Kenworth, and it came paired with an Eaton Endurant HD Automated Transmission and a 175-diesel gallon equivalent (DGE) fuel delivery system.

Kenworth says that the Cummins X15N will meet upcoming 2027 EPA emission requirements and CARB 2024 Low NOx standards, with CO2 and NOx levels are both 90% below current EPA standards, along with a fuel economy improvement of up to 10% over Cummins’ 12-liter natural gas engine.

“We’re thrilled to be the first company to acquire the T680 with the X15N 15-liter natural gas engine,” said Anthony Marshall, UPS’s vice president of maintenance and engineering. “This new truck enhances our worldwide fleet of over 18,000 alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles, which are essential for achieving our target of 40% alternative fuel in our ground operations by 2025 and carbon neutrality by 2050.”

Shell startet im Rheinland größte Anlage für Produktion von Bio-LNG

Köln/Wesseling - Die Shell Deutschland GmbH hat heute im Energy and Chemicals Park Rheinland eine neue Anlage zur Produktion von Bio-LNG (verflüssigtes Biomethan) in Betrieb genommen. Die Anlage ist die größte ihrer Art in Deutschland und kann jährlich rund 100.000 Tonnen des CO2-ärmeren Kraftstoffes herstellen. Damit könnten jährlich 4.000-5.000 LNG-LKW betankt und bis zu eine Million Tonnen CO2 vermieden werden. Der Verkehrssektor spielt eine bedeutende Rolle bei Shells Unternehmensstrategie mehr Wert mit weniger Emissionen zu schaffen. Mit der Inbetriebnahme der Bio-LNG-Anlage im Kölner Süden wird ein wichtiger Teil der Dekarbonisierungs-Ambitionen von Shell beim Schwerlastverkehr Realität.

Die Eröffnungszeremonie wurde von prominenten Gästen aus Politik, Gesellschaft und Verwaltung von Bund und dem Land Nordrhein-Westfalen sowie vielen Kunden aus dem Transportgewerbe begleitet.

Der Parlamentarische Staatssekretär des Bundesministeriums für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz, Michael Kellner, MdB (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen), sagte: „Die Eröffnung ist ein wichtiges Signal für Investitionen, Arbeitsplatzsicherung sowie Strukturwandel – und damit Teil der Energiewende in Deutschland.“

Felix Faber, Geschäftsführer von Shell Deutschland, sagte: „Wir wollen die gesamte Wertschöpfungskette für Bio-LNG bedienen. Dafür hat Shell bereits ein europaweites Netz mit 90 Tankstellen zur Betankung von LNG-LKW aufgebaut, darunter 36 Stationen in Deutschland. 2022 haben wir Europas größten Produzenten von Biomethan aus Dänemark, NatureEnergy, gekauft und arbeiten aktuell am Bau weiterer Anlagen in Deutschland. Mit dem Verflüssiger im Rheinland treiben wir nicht nur die Transformation des Standortes voran, sondern fügen der Wertschöpfungskette einen weiteren wichtigen Baustein hinzu.“

Biomethan ist ein nachhaltiges Gas, das aus landwirtschaftlichen Abfällen (Mist, Gülle oder organischen Reststoffen) gewonnen wird. In der neuen Anlage im Rheinland wird das Gas verflüssigt und an die Shell LNG-Stationen geliefert, an denen Kunden tanken.

Ziel von Shell ist es, bis 2050 ein Netto-Null-CO2-Unternehmen zu werden. Der Fokus dieser Transformation liegt auf Aktivitäten, die Treibhausgasemissionen verringern oder vermeiden.
So investiert Shell beträchtlich in CO2-arme und -freie Produkte sowie Angebote wie etwa Grünen Wasserstoff, Wind- und Solarstrom, den Aufbau der Ladeinfrastruktur für Elektrofahrzeuge und Biokraftstoffe. Dabei gilt es, das Trilemma Energiesicherheit – Energiekosten – Übergang zu klimaschonender Energie zu managen. Der Straßengüterverkehr ist für rund neun Prozent der weltweiten CO2-Emissionen verantwortlich und wird sich bis 2050 voraussichtlich verdreifachen. Allerdings ist der gesamte Transportsektor schwer zu dekarbonisieren. Deshalb baut Shell ihre Stärken bei CO2-ärmeren Molekülen aus, wie in Bio-LNG für LKW-Kraftstoffe.

Schon heute bietet das Unternehmen für den Transportsektor neben herkömmlichem Diesel Shell Renewable Diesel, Shell GTL Fuel, Shell LNG sowie Shell Wasserstoff und elektrische Ladelösungen. Mit diesem Kraftstoff-Mosaik wird Kunden geholfen, die Energiewende voranzutreiben.

Der Energy and Chemicals Rheinland ist für Shell einer der Motoren der Energiewende. So wird bereits Grüner Wasserstoff in dem vor drei Jahren in Betrieb genommenen Elektrolyseur Refhyne 1 produziert. Zudem ist erst im Januar eine weitreichende Investitionsentscheidung getroffen worden, nach der am Standort Wesseling von Shell Rheinland kein Rohöl mehr zu Treibstoffen verarbeitet werden soll. Stattdessen entsteht eine Produktionsanalage für hochwertige Schmierstoffe.

   Die in Köln in Betrieb genommene Gasverflüssigungsanlage enthält neben einer Verflüssigungseinheit ein Gasaufbereitungssystem, Lagertanks, Lkw-Beladung sowie die erforderlichen Sicherheitsfackeln.
   Shell Deutschland betreibt über 30 LNG-Tankstellen entlang der Hauptverkehrsrouten für den Straßengüterverkehr.
   Das von Shell bisher an den Tankstellen vertriebene LNG aus fossilem Erdgas bietet einen CO2-Emissionsvorteil von bis zu 22 Prozent gegenüber Diesel.
   Biomethan kann aus einer Vielzahl unterschiedlicher organischer Reststoffe wie landwirtschaftlichen Rückständen, Siedlungsabfällen und Gülle hergestellt werden. Die CO2-Intensität von Biomethan variiert je nach Ausgangsmaterial stark und (gemäß der Erneuerbare-Energien-Richtlinie der Europäischen Union II) beträgt zwischen -88 gCO2/MJ und +50 gCO2/MJ. Fossiles LNG – oft als graues LNG bezeichnet – hat eine CO2-Intensität von 74g CO2/MJ. (Zum Vergleich: Diesel hat eine CO2-Intensität von 95g CO2/MJ.)
   Durch die Mischung von Biomethan und fossilem Methan unterschiedlicher CO2-Intensitäten ist Shell in der Lage, Bio-LNG-Kraftstoff mit einer durchschnittlichen CO2-Intensität von 0 gCO2/MJ oder weniger für seine Kunden im Schwerlasttransportsektor anzubieten. Eine Einsparung von bis zu 1 Millionen Tonnen CO2 ist z.B. erreichbar, sofern das verwendete Biomethan vornehmlich aus Gülle hergestellt wird.

16 May 2024: Hexagon Agility, a business of Hexagon Composites, signed a 3-year
extension of its master services agreement with UPS in February 2024 to supply
renewable natural gas (RNG) fuel systems for medium- and heavy-duty trucks. UPS
is the world's premier package delivery company and a leading provider of global
supply chain management solutions.

Under the extended agreement, Hexagon Agility has received new orders totaling
USD 57.7 million (approx. NOK 620 million) for delivery of RNG fuel systems for
heavy-duty trucks. The orders include trucks utilizing the new 15-liter (X15N)
natural gas engine.

"In the past decade Hexagon Agility has supported the deployment of over 100,000
near-zero emission vehicles globally," said Eric Bippus, EVP of Sales and System

RNG in heavy-duty transport results in significant reductions of greenhouse gas
(GHG) emissions. In 2023, 6.96 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents
were displaced by RNG in the U.S.* This is equal to removing 17 billion miles
driven by the average passenger car.

About the market

Never before have there been so many natural gas trucks on the road. According
to The Transport Project there are more than 175,000 natural gas vehicles on US
roads today.

In 2023, RNG accounted for 79% of all on-road fuel used in natural gas vehicles
in the United States. Meanwhile, fuel providers and RNG producers are rapidly
expanding output and availability of RNG at the pump, adding to the 1,500
natural gas fueling stations available across North America today.

Timing

Deliveries of the new orders are expected to be completed by the end of the
fourth quarter of 2024. The bulk of the orders will be completed in the second
half of 2024.

Verkauf von Hexagon Ragasco

Worthington Enterprises wird 100 % von Hexagon Ragasco zu einem Unternehmenswert von 1.050 Millionen NOK erwerben. Abhängig von der Leistung von Hexagon Ragasco im Gesamtjahr 2024 kann der Wert zwischen minus 50 Millionen NOK und plus 100 Millionen NOK angepasst werden.

Erwerb einer nicht beherrschenden Beteiligung am SES-Geschäftssegment von Worthington

In Verbindung mit dem Verkauf von Hexagon Ragasco hat Hexagon Composites eine Vereinbarung zum Erwerb eines 49-prozentigen Anteils am Geschäftsbereich Sustainable Energy Solutions (SES) von Worthington zu einem Unternehmenswert von 20 Millionen USD auf 100-prozentiger Basis unterzeichnet. SES ist ein führender europäischer Anbieter von Hochdruckflaschen und -systemen zur Speicherung und Verteilung von komprimiertem Erdgas, Wasserstoff und Industriegasen und erzielte im Kalenderjahr 2023 einen Umsatz von 127 Millionen Euro und ein bereinigtes EBITDA von 2,9 Millionen Euro. Worthington wird 49 Prozent der Anteile behalten, während die leitenden Angestellten den Rest halten werden.

„Im Rahmen unseres Dialogs mit Worthington über den Verkauf von Hexagon Ragasco haben wir eine Chance für Hexagon innerhalb des Geschäftsbereichs Sustainable Energy Solutions (SES) von Worthington erkannt. Story bei Finansavisen heute:
Letzte Woche wurde bekannt gegeben, dass Hexagon Composites seine Tochtergesellschaft Ragasco für 1,05 Milliarden NOK verkauft. Der Verkauf wird am Montag abgeschlossen. Carnegie-Analyst Fabian Jørgensen prognostiziert nun langfristig eine Verdoppelung des Kurses , während DNB-Manager Eivind Veddeng Sars noch optimistischer ist und glaubt, dass sich die Aktie vervielfachen kann . Hexagon ist um 9,8 Prozent auf 31,40 NOK gestiegen.

Ich frag mich eigentlich immer noch, wie man Hexagon Composits  und Hexagon Purus so in den Keller geknüppelt hat.
Wurscht,  waren gute Kaufkurse - eigentlich ja immer noch  

DNB Markets gibt den Kauf von Hexagon Composites bekannt und hebt das Kursziel auf NOK 40 fest.

9 July 2024: Hexagon Agility, a business of Hexagon Composites, has received an order for Mobile Pipeline® TITAN modules from a global leading industrial gas company. The modules will be used to support growth in a key industrial gas market.

The order has an estimated value of USD 12.8 million (approx. NOK 135 million), and represents the continued diversification of Mobile Pipeline into new market segments.

Reducing emissions and cost
The all-composite design of the TITAN cylinders and high-strength steel frame enables the safe transport of nearly double the gas capacity of steel tube trailers. This results in fewer trips to deliver the same amount of gas, improving operational efficiency and reduces total cost of ownership and transportation emissions.

13 August 2024: Hexagon Agility, a subsidiary of Hexagon Composites, has received orders for renewable natural gas (RNG) fuel systems from a major refuse fleet in North America. The orders have a total value of USD 18.7 million (approximately NOK 203 million).

“We are proud to enable this refuse fleet to achieve cost-effective, carbon-negative transportation without compromising their existing business operations,” says Eric Bippus. “Refuse fleets face the challenge of heavy payloads and unique and demanding operating environments.  Making the switch to RNG offers fleets a proven and profitable option that reduces their carbon footprint - and provides a reliable and cost-effective solution for critical fleet operations.”

About the market

RNG captured from organic material in agricultural, wastewater, landfill, or food waste can produce carbon-negative results when fueling on-road vehicles like short- and long-haul trucks, transit buses, and refuse and recycling collection vehicles.

According to The Transport Project (formerly NGVAmerica) in the U.S. in 2023, 79% of all on-road fuel used in natural gas vehicles was RNG. This number grew by 16% compared to 2022 volumes, increasing 234% over the last six years.
