SALT LAKE CITY, Feb 13, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Fonix Speech Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Fonix Corp. (FNIX) specializing in speech interfaces for mobile devices, handheld electronic products, and systems and processors, will preview Fonix Speech(TM) voice recognition speech dialing technologies for Smartphones and PDAs using the Intel PXA27x processor on the show floor at 3GSM World Congress 2006 Barcelona, Spain. Fonix announces support for future phone platforms using next-generation Intel(R) XScale(R) processors.
"Optimized for the next-generation Intel(R) XScale(R) application processor family, Fonix Speech(TM) can provide a user-friendly, natural speech interface for cellular and handheld devices," stated Gary Forni, director of Handheld Platform Software Enabling, Intel Mobility Group. "An easy-to-use voice-dialing capability is important to users."
"Fonix's speaker-independent voice dialing software on next-generation Intel(R) XScale(R) application processor-based handheld devices enables seamless voice interface command dialing. The small memory footprint of Fonix Speech(TM) technology on the next-generation Intel(R) XScale(R) application processor will allow device manufacturers to embed accurate, user-friendly speech interfaces into powerful handheld devices like mobile phones, PDAs, and other electronic devices and consumer gadgets," said Walt Nawrocki, senior VP and GM, The Fonix Speech Group.
(March 20, 2006) Fonix Speech, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Fonix Corporation (OTC BB: FNIX), will have Fonix DECtalk 4.6.4 text-to-speech (TTS) technology showcased by Sun Microsystems. Running on the Sun SolarisTM 10 Operating System (OS) for personal computers, Fonix DECtalk will be demonstrated in Sun’s booth at the California State University, Northridge Center on Disabilities’ 21st Annual International Technology and Persons with Disabilities Conference, March 20-25, 2006 in Los Angeles, CA.
“Sun is pleased to offer a widely recognized text-to-speech engine such as Fonix DECtalk to our users in the assistive community,” said Juan Carlos Soto, VP, Software, Sun Microsystems. “DECtalk’s multiple TTS voices and languages match the needs of Sun’s worldwide customers. Sun chose Fonix DECtalk due to its long-running, reputable use in the market and its high degree of intelligibility.”
End users running Sun applications and screen readers on the Solaris 10 OS on PCs can now use Fonix DECtalk to enable their computers to “speak” text, which is particularly useful for the assistive market and customers with visual or mobility impairments that make traditional computer use cumbersome or impossible. DECtalk 4.6.4 offers an improved set of TTS voices in multiple languages.
“Fonix DECtalk text-to-speech provides Sun’s end users with an easy-to-use, convenient speech interface for their Solaris-based PCs,” says Walt Nawrocki, Senior VP and GM, Fonix Speech. “Fonix DECtalk is optimized to be highly intelligible, even under noisy conditions. Customers in the assistive marketplace in particular need text-to-speech that is easy to understand and easy to listen to, which is exactly what DECtalk delivers.”
