Many people don't really know exactly what business Berkshire Hathaway is in. Well, know that it often focuses on insurance, energy, and transportation. It also encompasses many businesses owned outright, such as GEICO, Benjamin Moore, Brooks, Duracell, Forest River, Fruit of the Loom, International Dairy Queen, Justin Brands, McLane, Pampered Chef, Pilot Travel Centers, See's Candies, and the entire BNSF railroad -- among dozens of others.
Berkshire owns stock in many companies, too
Not only does Berkshire Hathaway own lots of entire businesses, it's also invested in dozens more, by owning shares of stock. For example, it recently owned 2% of Apple (a position worth $75 billion!), 35.4% of Sirius XM, 28.2% of Occidental Petroleum, 21.6% of American Express, 9.3% of Coca-Cola, 8.9% of Bank of America, 6.9% of Kroger, and 6.7% of Chevron.

This is an amazing talk between Professor Jeffrey Sachs and former finance minister of Greece, Yanis Varoufakis. In this video, Professor Sachs explains in detail why the United States of America is going to lose the Trade War with China. Trump's tariffs are not going to work on China and more importantly, the US dollar's exorbitant privilege is going to diminish too. Watch the video now.

"Before moving on, I want to give you some good news – really good news – that is not reflected in our financial statements. It concerns the management changes we made in early 2018, when Ajit Jain was put in charge of all insurance activities and Greg Abel was given authority over all other operations. These moves were overdue. Berkshire is now far better managed than when I alone was supervising operations. Ajit and Greg have rare talents, and Berkshire blood flows through their veins."
Was ist, wenn Buffett eines Tages stirbt?
Ich spekuliere jetzt, könnte also komplett falschliegen.
Geld.
"Berkshire shareholders during the same 1965-2024 period received only one cash dividend. On January 3, 1967, we disbursed our sole payment – $101,755 or 10¢ per A share. (I can’t remember why I suggested this action to Berkshire’s board of directors. Now it seems like a bad dream.)"

Warren Buffett’s latest insights at the Berkshire Hathaway meeting reinforced everything I’ve been saying: market volatility isn’t a reason to panic—it’s an opportunity. While he announced he’s stepping down as CEO at the end of the year, what really stood out to me was his calm dismissal of the recent bear market as “nothing.” If you’re rattled by short-term drops, it’s likely you’re either emotionally unprepared or haven’t been in the market long enough to see real corrections. I’ve been there too, but over time, I’ve learned that fundamentals—not price swings—are what matter. That’s why I keep focusing on principle-driven investing: understanding whether a stock’s price drop reflects actual problems or just market overreaction. And it’s why I block my account balance when I log in—so emotions don’t cloud my judgment. Investing isn’t about hoping someone else will pay more tomorrow; it’s about buying great companies whose fundamentals improve over time. If you’re ready to deepen that mindset—and even explore how to generate extra retirement income through covered calls—join me on May 15th to learn more about our Retirement Accelerator strategy.
