GARDEN GROVE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 14, 2004--DPAC Technologies (Nasdaq:DPAC - News), the market leader in embedded 802.11 wireless networking solutions for a wide range of industrial applications, announces that ROMER CimCore, the world leader in portable metrology solutions, has integrated DPAC's Airborne(TM) Wireless LAN Node Module into its new INFINITE(TM) series of portable metrology systems.
By incorporating the Airborne(TM) module and a Li-ION battery, the ROMER CimCore INFINITE CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) and INFINITE Scanning CMM offer 802.11b wireless connectivity in portable, easy-to-position metrology systems. Designed for inspecting, measuring or reverse-engineering workpieces on the shop floor or in the metrology lab, INFINITE systems find application in industries that include aerospace, automotive and heavy equipment. Each system features a highly accurate articulating arm, including ROMER's patented infinite rotation, battery power for infinite portability and quick-change probes with automatic probe recognition.

DPAC's Airborne(TM) Wireless LAN Node Module is a highly integrated solution that allows "drop-in" wireless connectivity across a broad range of industrial applications. Featuring a built-in TCP/IP stack, Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) and application firmware, the embedded Airborne(TM) module is designed to provide wireless LAN and Internet connectivity to OEM products that require industrial grade performance with a quick time-to-market, reduced development cost and lowered risk.

According to Steve Ilmrud, Vice President of Operations for ROMER CimCore, data collected by an INFINITE system is transmitted wirelessly to a PC running metrology data analysis software. "By being wireless-enabled and battery powered, INFINITE systems are truly portable and flexible -- they're designed to reach tight spaces that no other metrology inspection system can access. You move and position an INFINITE system without having to deal with the hassles and safety hazards posed by external connection cables."

Ilmrud says ROMER chose the DPAC Airborne(TM) module for its INFINITE systems because of the module's 802.11b industry standards compatibility, embedded design and small footprint. "We required a wireless module that was built to universal standards, and one that we could quickly and easily integrate into our systems. The DPAC module met all of these requirements."

"The DPAC team is proud to have wirelessly enabled the INFINITE systems with ROMER, where reliability, durability and precision are all essential elements of success," says Greg Gower, Vice President, DPAC Technologies. "The DPAC Airborne(TM) module was designed to meet the types of technical and integration challenges typical of industrial applications, and our technology has performed very well."
